    October 10 2024- hosted by The Ruby Slipper, welcome 70 attendees to engage with local organizations, vendors, and eco-artist before listening to a panel including regional experts from Glass Half Full, Healthy Gulf, Xavier University, UNO, and Tulane University speaking on the exciting research and public programs available for the public to plug into.

    Salon 2, January 25, 2025 hosted by the Music Box Village, welcomed over 200 attendees to celebrate and set intentions for a Sustainable Mardi Gras with almost 40 different artists and vendors. Panelists included Boyfriend, and representatives from the Office of Resilience, Sewerage and Water Board, Arts New Orleans, Recycle Dat!, and Turning Tables.

  • Salon 3

    Salon 3, May 25, 2025- will focus on the lived experience of a New Orleans Summer, and connect the dots to the infrastructure and economic systems that shape that experience. We will feature a panel discussion, an original performance piece by Neal Todten called The Coldest Summer of the Rest of Our LIves and an exhibition of Kalli Padgett's Coast Create eco-artwork.

Through art, science, and collective community action, we aim to reshape how we think about our environment and our role in its stewardship. We are the people and have all the resources between us to adapt and shape a new paradigm.

  1. Culture bearers are our most powerful agents of change—we believe that artists, musicians, and cultural leaders hold the power to shift public opinion and engage the broader community in meaningful climate conversations.

  2. Diverse perspectives make better solutions—our strength lies in collaboration. The more perspectives we bring to the table, the more impactful our solutions will be.

  3. Community is our SUPER power—we are stronger when we come together. We have all the resources we need within our community to build a sustainable future. We don’t need to wait for someone else to save us; we take care of ourselves, together.

Dr. D. Jelagat Cheruiyot
2024 Panelist

Dr. D. Jelagat Cheruiyot is a senior professor of practice in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology (EEB), School of Science and Engineering. Dr. Cheruiyot Joined EEB in 2017. Cheruiyot is deeply engaged in both academia and community engagement locally, regionally, and internationally. Born and raised in Kenya, she holds a Ph.D. in biological science from Auburn University, AL., where she studied the elemental defense, hypothesis, joint effects, and the trophic transfer of heavy metals.  At Tulane, Cheruiyot has been instrumental in integrating service learning into her courses and everyday practice community member in New Orleans. She teaches a diverse range of students from freshman to seniors and graduate students, with an emphasis on community engaged projects such as community gardens, recycling, composting, ecosystem restoration and informed cultural participation.
